The thought of cleaning up the kitchen after cooking dinner can sometimes be all the motivation I need to order takeout.

Even when I’m cleaning as I go, I have the trash can sitting in the middle of the floor to catch scraps from the cutting board and I flood the counter around the sink while trying to clean pots and pans . Not to mention that what I’m baking is causing a mess that I probably won’t clean up until next weekend on a ‘big’ cleaning day. It really is a circus.

The thing is, life in the kitchen doesn’t have to be like that. An Instagram video by Mik Zenon recently caught my eye that showcased some handy gadgets to make cleaning the kitchen easier. And, it included a product that I’m sure is a game-changer when it comes to cooking.

The solution is less than $15

The brief video highlights five kitchen products from Amazon that I may or may not need (spoiler alert: I need them all). And the first time I watched the clip, the product that stood out was a hanging bin/food waste collector. It’s one of those things I didn’t know I needed, until I saw it existed.

Who knew I didn’t have to constantly run through my kitchen trash can chopping vegetables and taking things out of the oven? I can even scrape leftovers straight from the counter into the box! Getting excited about this stuff clearly shows that I’m an adult and getting older.

Turns out, there are plenty of hanging trash can options on Amazon, including this silicone version from Eleganted. It is foldable and comes with a small scraper. I really like this option because it is easy to store when not in use and because of its very low price.

There are also slightly sturdier hard plastic bins, like this option from Navaris. You can use this type of scrap trap to clean up messes in your kitchen or to hold your sponges and dish soaps.

If you really want to get fancy, there are some really nice models that come with lids. Rather, it is a permanent feature that you add to the inside of a cabinet door, like this option from ELPHECO. And, they can be used as a trash can or compost bin.

Other useful gadgets to keep your kitchen clean

I don’t want to forget the other handy kitchen gadgets highlighted in the video that will make cleaning up after cooking a breeze. First, there’s the LONIN Kitchen Sink Sponge Holder, which helps keep your cleaning supplies organized.

Instead of searching for your sponges at the bottom of a sink full of dirty dishes, you can keep them handy using a sink caddy. It’s an especially useful gadget when you have limited space, such as in a small apartment kitchen or RV.

A long kitchen absorbent mat from LOPNUR is essential if you wash the dishes by hand. The window behind my kitchen sink and the counter around it always looks like a storm has passed after cleaning the dinner dishes, so this little product really spoke to me.

When it comes to baking, I don’t know how I’ve lived this long without putting oven mats in the bottom to catch all the mess. This set of four premium liner mats from YEAILIFE will catch drips, cheeses, sauces and other baked-on messes.

But, they are for more than just ovens. You can also use liner mats on your outdoor grill or stovetop. Simply wipe them clean and put them in the dishwasher for easy kitchen cleanup. This gadget is so awesome and I ended up wondering how they weren’t in my kitchen before?

The final item in the video – a Blackstone electric hob – didn’t quite fit the theme of kitchen cleaning gadgets. Unless you consider the fact that it doesn’t take up counter space and is super easy to clean. Look what this happy customer had to say.

“We’ve had it for a week and have used it for almost every meal since. Each meal turns out to be better than the last. I was skeptical about buying it, but I have to say I would go back if the opportunity arose. If you’re not sure about buying it, and you ask for an opinion, I’m telling you go for it x100 🤷🏻 ♀️. I used to have the hardest time making Sunny Eggs, and now it’s a breeze. The surface is very non-stick and very easy to clean. I’m in love.”

I couldn’t have said it better for myself.
