Glasgow property: what £ 1million brings you in and around the city
A million pounds these days won’t get you as far as 30 years ago, but it’s safe to say you’ll still get your money’s worth around Glasgow.
While the team of Glasgow Live let’s run no risk of becoming millionaires unless we win the lottery, we’re big dreamers – and quite curious. We can’t help but take a look at what’s going on in the real estate market every now and then to see what’s there.
So we picked five of the most expensive homes you can get in the Million Pound area in and around town.
Typical high-end hotspots featured in the roundup include Thorntonhall, Dowanhill, and Pollokshields – some with up to seven rooms. Maybe we can all participate?
Here’s a rundown – and let us know what you think in the comments.
Baroness Drive, Thorntonhall
A six-bed house – one with its own walk-in closet and a luxury bathroom – has been put up for sale in posh Thorntonhall in south Lanarkshire. Highlights include a “magnificent” reception hall with oak staircase, a large, professionally landscaped garden with hot tub and a garage with partially converted gym.
Offers over £ 990,000. Check it out here.
Nithsdale Road, south side
A seven bedroom Victorian sandstone villa in Nithsdale Road on three levels – completely refurbished while retaining its charming period features. The ground floor has a spectacular living room, a second reception with a stunning contemporary open kitchen with solid wood worktops, large utility room and W / C.
Upstairs on the half landing you will find two double bedrooms and a beautiful arched window overlooking the rear garden. The first floor has four further double bedrooms.
Dating from 1881, it features ornate cornices, detailed woodwork, and characteristic windows; perfect if you like a house with heritage bags. Offer over £ 950,000 and you can check it out on Rightmove.
Belhaven Terrace, west end
A “superb” duplex conversion in what vendors have described as “arguably one of the best terraces in the West End”. We let you be the judge.
The apartment has its own cinema room, private garden and patio with glass doors to the full height of the living room and kitchen. Formed over two floors, a stone staircase leads to the lower ground floor with access to a long welcoming reception hall leading to the accommodation. The living room with dining area has doors to the garden and has been decorated by an upscale interior company from London. There’s also a sleek contemporary fitted kitchen with base and wall units as well as a peninsula unit with a breakfast bar.
Stairs lead down to the ground floor, where there are three magnificent double bedrooms, all with luxurious suites, as well as an office, perfect for the WFH era.
Offer over £ 900,000 and you can see it at Rightmove.
Dowanhill Street, Dowanhill
This traditional red sandstone townhouse was built at the turn of the last century by David Barclay, one of the architect brothers of HD Barclay, a follower of the iconic architect Alexander “Greek” Thomson.
Built over four floors, the property features a magnificent wood-paneled reception hall, a large living room with oriel windows, typical of the late Victorian era, and an impressive length of Portuguese marble along the ‘a wall installed by a previous owner.
The lower ground floor is currently divided into two bedrooms, each with its own access to the backyard. The first floor houses the four main bedrooms and the bathroom while the top floor is dedicated to a spacious fifth bedroom with additional WC.
He’s on the market for deals over £ 825,000 and you can see him at Rightmove.
West Regent Street, downtown
Two beautiful serviced apartments in a large Georgian townhouse overlooking Blythswood Square Gardens have been put up for sale – and this is a great opportunity for investors. (I can not understand.)
The four bedroom penthouse apartment is accessed by a private elevator or period staircase, features a reception hall, modern and contemporary toilet, open plan living / dining area and contemporary style kitchen with center island. There is also a large double bedroom / sitting area with a beautiful period staircase to the upper level which accesses a master bedroom with walk-in closet and modern fitted bathroom, two additional double bedrooms and a master bathroom with separate shower and laundry room.
Then there is a luxurious three bedroom apartment distributed over the ground floor and basement of the townhouse. This recently renovated serviced apartment has three generously sized double bedrooms. The ground floor has a living and dining area with a fully equipped kitchen.
The property is on the market for offers over £ 850,000 and you can check it out on Rightmove.
