The Proscenic T21 air fryer provides voice-activated cooking
In the wild world of Google Home and Assistant products, the kitchen remains one of the last areas to be fully explored – step inside the Proscenic T21 air fryer.
Now I didn’t think another $ 130 kitchen appliance would actively change the way I cook, but with my eye on an air fryer for a while, I was surprised that you could buy appliances that include Google Assistant integration.
Proscenic is known for making affordable robot / vacuum cleaners and air filtration devices, so the T21 deviates a bit from their usual product line. That said, there must be some crossover, as this is actually a small fan-assisted oven that sits on your kitchen counter – and that brings significant space requirements that a small kitchen does. might not be able to respond.
Honestly, I don’t know what I was expecting up front as this is a large device that needs a lot of countertop or counter space. Take into account a little extra space for heat vents and its great investment in kitchen space. Fortunately, the basket is large enough to make multiple servings so that this sacrifice is more palatable, but it’s still important to note that you can’t easily hide it when you’re done.
Let’s start with the basics first, because beyond voice commands, the Proscenic T21 comes with eight preset cooking modes for fries, shrimp, pizza, chicken, fish, steak, cake, and bacon. These modes simply set the temperature and timer over a predetermined period for optimal cooking. I’m not sure how Prosenic decided on the temperature and times, but I found them quite close to where they probably should be at least in the position of a novice cook.
The Proscenic app includes over 100 recipes, but following a plant-based diet, I didn’t find many that I could actively try on my own. I will say that being able to control the cooking times of roasted vegetables and snacks was a nice addition that made sure that burning food is not something I have to worry about too much. It’s pretty easy to forget that you can actually cook multiple things in the basket at the same time, which dramatically speeds up your cooking times.
Of course, smart home technologies like a stove or kettle are great if you want to plan things ahead. Because I don’t eat meat, I can leave things in the basket and then tell the Google Assistant to start cooking or finish cooking at a certain point without worrying so much about food safety. The downside is that unlike a light bulb, which is passive, you still have to interact with the appliance to cook the food. It’s a very lazy feeling, but it means the Proscenic T21 air fryer looks a bit like a slow cooker but with a timed cooking window.
I will say that I had some difficulty linking my Proscenic account to my Google Home account during the initial setup phase. The app was easy to pair, but connecting directly to your assistant may take a few tries. For some reason it didn’t recognize my login details and a quick chat with in-app customer service got things going. I mainly kept the voice commands on the base “turn off the air fryer” or “turn off the air fryer in 15 minutes”. You can request specific programs, but it’s not something I used as there is no falafel option. My personal gripes aside, I didn’t run into too many issues, but the dedicated app offers a lot more flexibility in my experience.
There have been some fairly significant concerns regarding the safety of Wi-Fi enabled kitchen appliances. Cosori brand air fryers needed an update recently to prevent remote attackers from taking control of the appliances and adjust the thermostat and more. While there is absolutely no evidence to suggest that the Proscenic T21 air fryer is vulnerable to similar attacks, I have made a habit of unplugging it when not in use – something I suspect. makes sense with countertop kitchen appliances regardless of any perceived or potential security vulnerabilities.
Overall, as an affordable entry into kitchen appliances powered by Google Assistant, the Proscenic T21 air fryer could be a solid option to consider. You can get the Proscenic T21 air fryer for $ 129 from Amazon.
